As part of the world’s largest group of grass breeders and producers we publish a range of catalogues for the agricultural, amenity and consumer markets. We draw upon our own photographic library to help illustrate our products, their uses and benefits but occasionally we need to source photos from elsewhere. With the expansion of environmental stewardship and conservation initiatives we turned to UK Butterflies for a couple of photos for our "Your Countryside 2007" catalogue and will no doubt be asking for their help again for 2008.

Herefordshire Woodlands Project, Butterfly Conservation

2nd October 2007

As part of Butterfly Conservation's Herefordshire Woodlands Project, a butterfly identification chart is being produced for Herefordshire. Some of the excellent photos from the UK Butterflies stock photo library have been used to illustrate different species, for example showing the differences between the High Brown Fritillary and the Dark Green Fritillary. This leaflet will be distributed widely throughout Herefordshire and will hopefully reach many members of the public and make them enthusiastic about looking for and recording butterflies.

I am doing some work for the Greenham Common Trust and have found your website very useful as I am trying to create some work for primary aged children about the wildlife on Greenham Common which has recently been restored. I wanted to teach children about some of the more unusual species of butterfly and what we can do to create a habitat to attract them. I am doing some work for them based on the grizzled skipper. I have used your brilliant photos to introduce children to the 5 species of skipper that can be found on Greenham Common and to tell them a bit more about the Grizzled Skipper. I also plan on using your images to create a game, where they learn to recognise some of the more common species they are likely to see. I will also encourage teachers to use your site as I think it is an excellent educational resource.

St Bridget's Primary School, Glasgow

20th September 2007

I taught the children about the life cycle of butterflies last year. They thoroughly enjoyed the subject and were asking for more information.I am taking this class on this year into primary 5 and decided to expand on last year's work. We are going to look at British butterflies and their habitat this year as part of enviromental studies. The photographs will be used, along with their names and areas found, for a wall chart or collage which the children will make. Your website address will be put on the chart to allow the children to access it in their own time. The photographs you have taken are stunning and will hopefully be an inspiration.
